| 3 to 40 horsepower Discus
reciprocating compressors are the most energy-efficient
compressors available for all refrigeration applications. The
combination of superior energy efficiency, the wide range of
size and models available, and a strong after market support
network has made Discus compressors the industry standard for
many refrigeration applications. You can depend on Copeland
Discus compressors.
Here’s why:
Reliability
Copeland
Discus compressors are engineered for high quality and
outstanding reliability. Each Discus model series pass a
grueling series of performance and durability tests.
This testing, combined with 20 years of real field experience,
make the Discus an excellent choice for relibility.
Efficiency
Copeland Discus compressors have
been the industry leaders in energy efficiency for the past 20
years. Patented Discus valve technology minimizes refrigerant
re-expansion volume and is designed to meet a broad range of
application requirements. It is the ideal choice for racks and
single condensing units and is typically 10% more energy
efficient than reed compressor technology.
Compatability
Copeland Discus compressors
perform in a variety of refrigeration application requirements
from 50 degrees F down to -40 degrees F. The Discus compressor
line offers a full range of 2 though 8 cylinder models that
operate with a wide range of refrigerants.
How
it Works
The
compression process begins with refrigerant entering the
compressor through the service valve on the motor cover.
A precise quantity of the refrigeration (shown in red) is
drawn through the motor to cool it for long life. The
remainder of the refrigerant flow (shown in orange) is
routed outside the motor cavity to prevent absorption of
heat, helping to optimize efficiency.
Another unique design feature of
the Copeland Discus compressor is found in the valve plates.
The patented Discus valve plate design allows gas to flow into
the cylinders with a minimum amount of heat gain. The suction
cavities are designed to smoothly route the gas to minimize
turbulence. The puck-like Discus valve (shown in black) is the
key to superior geometry and performance. Finally, compressed
discharge gas (shown in red) flows through the cylinder head
to exit.
